Can a corset make me appear slimmer?

Are corsets comfortable?

A well-made corset constructed, to your measurements will fit comfortably at the ribs and gently compress only your waist, allowing for easy breathing.   • During the first few occasions when worn do not lace up too tightly, this will allow your corset time to mold naturally to your shape, so it hugs the curves of your body.

Do you have corsets for plus size women?

Our corsets are designed to flatter women of all body types, shapes and sizes. All our corsets are made to measure allowing waist sizes up to 40 inches. Traditionally when measuring for a corset they are made between 4 and 6 inches below the measured size. For example a waist of 40 inches would require a corset size of 34-36inches depending on the desired effect.

How do I put on a corset?

When preparing to wear your corset for the first time is is always advisable to have someone to assist you. However with practice you will soon be able to dress yourself without assistance, just follow these simple steps .

 

  • First loosen the lacing at the back until there is a gap of about 4 to 6 inches, put the corset around you with the lacing at the back.

 

  • Once the corset is in place, fasten the front busk; do the top clasp first and then the rest working down towards the tummy.

 

  • Reaching round the back, pull the loops gently then tighten the lacing progressively towards the middle from both top and bottom, until you are happy with the fit. The corset should give you a secure "hugging" sensation without feeling too tight.

 

  • Finally tie the ends of the ribbons in a bow.

 

You should not try to lace the corset closed, or tightly  on the first few occasions. Your corset will need time to "break in" to mold to your body shape. Tightening the corset too tight may damage the fabric and stitching and will make the garment feel uncomfortable.

Wearing and care of your corset

If you envisage wearing your corset frequently you may wish to wear it over a hidden "tube top" or chemise, this will protect it from excessive perspiration or body oils. When you first wear your corset do not over tighten, this may possibly damage the eyelets, stitching or fabric. Allow your corset time to mold it's self to your natural curves, after wearing on a couple of occasions the corset will be able to be worn slightly tighter.  

Your corset can be spot cleaned with a  very soft cloth or brush, beware of marking the fabric with water  or dry cleaning solutions and always ask us for cleaning advice before cleaning. Some materials and fabrics are not suitable for cleaning by certain methods always check before attempting to clean.   Most corsets are suitable for cleaning by professional dry cleaning, again please check before cleaning or ask for advice from your  dry cleaning outlet. Never wash your corset by hand or machine, the metal stays will rust and never hang your corset on a metal hanger.
